Meet Sylvia

Sylvia Jones serves as your PC Member of Provincial Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon.    

She is currently Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, where her focus is building a stronger health care system for all Ontarians.    

Sylvia has worked with health care partners from across Ontario to:    

• Deliver Ontario’s $3.4 billion Primary Care Action Plan, which is connecting everyone to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029. 
• Lead the largest medical school expansion in over a decade, with the addition of hundreds of additional medical seats at existing medical schools, as well as the creation of two new medical schools, the TMU School of Medicine in Brampton, and York University School of Medicine in Vaughan.
• Make it easier and faster for health care workers trained in Ontario, other provinces, and internationally, to register and practise in Ontario.    
• Expand pharmacist scope of practice to prescribe and treat 28 common ailments, such as rashes, pink eye, and sprains.    
• Approve annual operating funding for 50 new MRI machines in hospitals across Ontario, including Headwaters Health Care Centre’s very first MRI.    
• Advance Ontario’s $64 billion plan to build health infrastructure, which is supporting more than 50 major hospital capital projects across the province within the next 10 years. 

Sylvia previously served as Solicitor General, where she championed public safety initiatives, including leading the country with a $307 million anti-human trafficking strategy and legislation, and passing Canada’s toughest animal protection legislation.
