Peel Manor Re-development Delay

April 17th, Sylvia Jones MPP Dufferin-Caledon questioned the Premier on why the government has delayed the approval of the re-development of the Peel Manor Long Term Care Home, in Brampton.

“The Region of Peel wants to know why the Liberal government has prevented the redevelopment of Peel Manor Long Term Care Home in Brampton,” said Jones.

“Peel Manor is over 100 years old, making it the oldest of the Region’s five long term care homes. Seniors in the Peel Region are waiting two to three years for long term care beds How long does the Region of Peel have to wait for the Liberals to allow them to expand beds and upgrade services at Peel Manor?” asked Jones.

“Peel Region and Peel hospitals were the epicentre of hallway medicine. The Region wants to upgrade Peel Manor to rebuild 177 long term care beds including areas specialized for needs such as dementia. The plan is also to expand 24/7 Adult Day programing and respite, making it a hub for seniors care,” said Jones

“I am pleased that the Premier appeared to leave the door open to future progress saying, “no one on this side of the House said that it’s not a worthwhile project…” I encourage the Premier to meet with the Region of Peel and finally allow the Region to make necessary investments in seniors care,” said Jones.
